# About FuneralCompare

## What FuneralCompare is

FuneralCompare is a directory of funeral homes and cremation providers. Each listing page shows what we know about one funeral provider.

## Where the data comes from

We take records from the sources below.

- [OpenStreetMap (funeral directors and crematoria)](https://www.openstreetmap.org/copyright). License: Open Database License (ODbL) 1.0, (c) OpenStreetMap contributors. See data/reports/osm.md for share-alike notes.. Data updated by hand.
- [Provider websites](https://funeralcompare.fyi/). License: Each provider's own published fee list. The directory records one figure and links to the list.. Data updated by hand.
- [FuneralCompare editors](https://funeralcompare.fyi/). License: All rights reserved. Data updated by hand.

## A listing is a record, not an endorsement

A listing shows what we know about one funeral provider. It does not mean that we recommend it.

## How a listing is checked

A listing needs its name and category to appear in search engines. It also needs a completeness score of 40 out of 100.

Our team reviews each new listing before it goes live.

An owner proves control of a listing with an email address on the business domain or a manual check by our team.

An owner change to the name, phone, website, street address, address line 2, city, region, postal code and country goes to review before it shows.

## Claim or correct a funeral provider

To claim a listing that is unclaimed, open it and select "Claim this listing".

To report a mistake, open the listing and select "Suggest a change".

> **Not financial advice.** FuneralCompare lists funeral homes and cremation providers and the fee information they publish. It is not financial, legal or medical advice, and a listing is not a recommendation. Addresses, phone numbers and fee figures come from the sources named on each listing and were last checked on the date shown there; fees change, so confirm every figure with the provider before you decide. To report a mistake, write to hello@funeralcompare.fyi.
